Carri and Gordon had full “prior lives,” with long-standing first marriages and children in Southern California before both divorced. It was natural for Carri, who’d been in the film business for years, to turn to film work for her healing; in 1984, she produced a two-part documentary on divorce and starting over. Gordon, who’d divorced 9 years earlier, was a school administrator, but also led a singles group as a lay pastor.  When Carri premiered her series for a meeting of such pastors, late-arriving Gordon was hooked on first glance. He managed to schedule lunch-then another-on business pretenses. Ten months later, this “high divorce risk” couple sealed the deal and married. Carri had called off one second wedding when her fiancé couldn’t meet her “nonnegotiables”; she was impressed that she and Gordon, who had some of his own sticking points, could work through the tough discussions in a serious manner.
